Eagle 97.7’s Steve West’s “DELAWALK” raises
$10,954.35 to help fund local Red Cross relief
One step at a time
Eagle 97.7’s Steve West, host of “The Morning
Mess”, walked 136.4 miles in ten days from Delmar to
Middletown to meet 1,000 Eagle 977 listeners and to
raise money for the American Red Cross of the
Delmarva Peninsula. His marathon trek, which ended
Thursday April 13th at Halpern Eye Associates in
Middletown, raised more than $10,900 for local
disaster relief.
Sponsored by Halpern Eye Associates and other
local businesses, Steve’s journey began in the early
morning hours of April 3rd when he set off from
Delmar. The intrepid Steve (right in picture),
accompanied by 97.7 Producer Steve Monz (left in
picture) in their specially outfitted Honda
Ridgeline and trailer, made pit stops twice a day
along the route to meet and greet listeners and
collect donations for the local chapter of the
American Red Cross. Steve’s loyal fan base came out
to urge him on, in Seaford, Bridgeville, Georgetown,
Lewes, Milford, Harrington, Felton, Camden, Dover,
W. Dover, N. Dover. Cheswold, Smyrna and Middletown.
Red Cross volunteers and staff, and families who had
been helped or trained by the Red Cross shared their
stories live on 97.7FM during the 10-day trek. Steve
and fellow Eagle 97.7FM presenter Gary also
broadcast live at the official ribbon cutting
ceremony for the new Southern Delmarva Office for
the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula on
N. Market St. extension in Seaford.
Donations for DELAWALK can still be made to the
American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula through
the Eagle 97.7FM website – www.eagle977.com, by
phone to 1-800-777-6620 or by mail to American Red
Cross Southern Delmarva Office, Attention: DELAWALK,

donation to the Red Cross will get you a numbered
shirt with Steve's autograph on it. Contact Eagle
97.7FM at (302) 422-7575 or staff@eagle977.com.
Speaking of T-shirts, the auction for shirts #1 and
#1000 is now over. Congratulations to David
Henderson, who bid $125 for shirt #1, and Joe Young,
who bid $105 for shirt #1000.
Thank you to all who contributed to Steve’s
successful DELAWALK. And a HUGE thank you to Steve
West!
The American Red Cross helps millions of
worldwide but this fundraising drive keeps the
donation dollars in our local area where as many as
277 families in 9 counties on the Delmarva Peninsula
have been assisted in the past year, due to a
tragedy such as a house fire or flood. Since the
beginning of this year up until mid-April, 271
families in our 9 counties have received disaster
assistance from their local Red Cross. Of these, 35
families were from Sussex and 41 families were from
Kent. Every cent stays right here where it is
needed!
Delmarva Broadcasting Company locally owns and
operates EAGLE 97.7 along with 10 other radio
stations in Delaware and Maryland. DBC is committed
to serving listeners and communities in which we
live.
