GET HELP
Disaster Services
American Red Cross Disaster Services reduce human
suffering by helping people prevent, prepare for,
and recover from natural and other disasters.
Disasters don’t always make the evening news, but
they are devastating to
the lives they touch. Whenever fires, floods,
hurricanes or other disasters strike, the American
Red Cross responds immediately, 24 hours a day. Red
Cross takes care of everyone affected by disasters –
free of charge and without discrimination.
Trained
paid and volunteer staff are quickly on the scene to
help those involved in disasters with their
immediate needs – usually shelter, food and
clothing, and a shoulder to lean on. Free disaster
training is provided for volunteers, who make up 97%
of our workforce and ensure that the Red Cross is
right there, ready to help, in all communities in
Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
The Red Cross also plays a major role in the safety
of local families through “all-hazards disaster
planning,” which includes mitigation and readiness
collaborations with city, county, state and federal
emergency management.
While the Red Cross is mandated by the United States
Congress to provide disaster relief, we receive no
funding from the Federal Government to do so. We
rely on generous donations of time, talent and
financial contributions from the American people.

disaster strikes.
Armed Forces Emergency Services
You are Never Out of Touch. Around the Clock. Around
the World.
Our brave men and women in the armed forces face
enough challenges without worrying about how their
loved ones will contact them in an emergency –
especially during times of conflict. When emergency
strikes, the Red Cross helps families get messages
to and from their loved ones in the military, 24
hours a day. Whether stationed at sea or at a base
far away from home, thousands of military personnel
from Delaware and the Eastern Shore of Maryland,
including National Guard members and reservists,
have been helped by the Red Cross. This essential
service – mandated by Congress – is funded primarily
by voluntary donations, from individual and
corporate donors.
Call 1-800-777-6620, 24 hours a day, to get an
emergency message to your loved one serving in the
military.
