Red Cross assists families affected by Cambridge Fire

SEAFORD, DE – January 15, 2008 – Disaster Action Team members and staff of the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula have been working with clients affected by a fire in Cambridge (Dorchester Co) since the middle of the afternoon today. We currently assisted four of the seven units. A nearby church served as a 'reception' center so that our team and disaster victims could be in touch with one another. We will also be in contact with families by phone to assure that they have a safe place to stay, food, and clothing as their needs indicate.

Over the past few weeks, the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula has responded to nearly a dozen fires that have affected families. In fact, home fires are the #1 disaster in the United States---over 400,000 every year -- killing nearly 3000 people every year. Please tell your friends and colleagues about our important work -- home fires and Red Cross response to home fires has increased by 10% every year since 2000.
