Greensboro Family Left Homeless After Overnight
Fire: Assisted By Red Cross Volunteers
Seaford, DE – January 30, 2007 – A family
of two, left homeless after a house fire destroyed
their mobile home on Greensboro Road last night, was
assisted by Red Cross volunteers. The two adults
were provided with their immediate emergency needs,
including temporary housing, food, clothing, shoes
and seasonal garments by trained volunteers from the
American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. With
all disasters, large or small, Red Cross assists
with the immediate disaster-caused needs of those
affected – primarily temporary shelter, food and
clothing – free of charge to the recipients. The
families are also referred to other community
partners for their longer term needs, and provided
with information on the steps they should take to
cope with the disaster and plan their recovery.

New volunteers sought by
Red Cross
The American Red Cross of the Delmarva
Peninsula is recruiting volunteers and provides free
training for those wishing to become disaster
volunteers, who assist families devastated by fires,
floods and other disasters. Fore details about how
you can train to become a Red Cross volunteer,
contact Betsy Tuttle at (800) 777-6620 ext. 6262 or
email btuttle@redcrossdelmarva.org.
Your Red Cross needs
bilingual (Spanish-speaking) volunteers!
Language challenges can waste precious time when
disaster strikes. Non-English speaking residents
also need to learn life-saving skills such as CPR,
First Aid and Emergency Preparedness, to help
prevent emergencies. These are just some of the
areas that bilingual Spanish-speaking volunteers can
help the local Red Cross.
The American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula
is ready to train bilingual volunteers to help its
Disaster Action Teams take care of local families
left homeless by fires or floods. Also needed are
CPR/First Aid instructors who can teach families
life-saving skills in Spanish. In addition,
Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed to make
community presentations on the steps of Emergency
Preparedness to help local families prevent and
prepare for emergencies, and Spanish-speaking
translators are always needed.
If you would like to help as a bilingual Spanish
volunteer, the American Red Cross of the Delmarva
Peninsula will be holding an Information Session at
Delaware Technical and Community College in Dover on
February 10, 2007. This session will be held from
10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Please register with Sarah
Gilmour: (302) 472-6260, 1-800-777-6620, ext. 6260
or sgilmour@redcrossdelmarva.org,
Please consider taking action with the Red Cross
in 2007 – as a volunteer!
