Three Hurlock Families Receive Red Cross Assistance After Apartment Fire

Seaford, DE – February 8, 2007 – Three families were provided with emergency assistance by Red Cross volunteers after a fire damaged their apartment building on Middle Street, in Hurlock this afternoon. The families, five adults and an 11-year-old child, were assisted with their immediate needs by trained volunteers from the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. Two other families displaced by the fire in the five unit apartment block had made alternative accommodation arrangements. Less than a month ago, a Hurlock family of four also received Red Cross assistance after a home fire.

Typically, the Red Cross provides families displaced by disasters such as home fires and floods with temporary accommodation, groceries and clothing, free of charge to the affected family, thanks to the generosity of the American public. The families are also referred to other community partners for their longer term needs, and provided with information on the steps they should take to cope with the disaster and plan their recovery.
