Red
Cross Bilingual (Spanish-Speaking) Volunteer Group
Moving Forward!
Second Information Session To Be Held In
Wilmington On February 22nd.
Wilmington, DE, February 15, 2007: L ast
week’s Red Cross Information Session at Delaware
Technical & Community College in Dover, which was
attended by 19 interested residents of Kent and
Sussex counties, resulted in a pledge by the group
to take training and be active in the Latin
community as Red Cross ambassadors, disaster relief
workers, CPR instructors and fundraisers.
Language challenges can waste precious time when
disaster strikes. Non-English speaking residents
also need to learn life-saving skills such as CPR,
First Aid and Emergency Preparedness, to help
prevent emergencies. These are just some of the ways
that bilingual) volunteers can help the local Red
Cross.
The Red Cross is ready to train bilingual
(Spanish-speaking) volunteers to help its Disaster
Action Teams take care of local families left
homeless by fires or floods. Also needed are
CPR/First Aid instructors who can teach families
life-saving skills in Spanish. In addition,
Spanish-speaking volunteers are needed in so many
other areas; disaster preparedness, public affairs,
fundraising, community education, and
Spanish-speaking translators are always needed.
A second Information Session for New Castle
County residents will be held at the American Red
Cross offices at the Community Services Building in
Wilmington on February 22, 2007. This session will
be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please contact
Sarah Gilmour at (302) 472-6260 or 1-800-777-6620,
extension 6260 or sgilmour@redcrossdelmarva.org to
register.
Please consider taking action with the Red Cross
in 2007 – as a volunteer!
