Families Receive Red Cross Disaster Assistance In
Past Two Weeks, After Home Fires
Wilmington, DE,
March 22, 2007 – Three families were being
helped by the Red Cross today after a morning fire
in North East, Maryland. Volunteers from the
American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula
responded to the scene of the fire and provided the
nine people (three adults and six children) with
emergency assistance including food and clothing,
after the families chose to stay with family and
friends. They were referred to other community
agencies for their longer term disaster recovery
needs.
Just across the
county border, Red Cross assisted a family of three
on Willow Oak Lane, Chestertown in Kent, after their
home was destroyed by a fire this morning. Trained
volunteers from the American Red Cross of the
Delmarva Peninsula were on the scene to provide for
the emergency needs of the two adults and child who
were left homeless.
Disaster Action
volunteers from the American Red Cross of the
Delmarva Peninsula also provided emergency
assistance to the following families after fires
took their toll all over the Delmarva Peninsula in
the past two weeks:
On Tuesday, a
Goldsboro, Caroline County family received Red Cross
emergency assistance after a home fire on Maple
Avenue. The family of 2 adults and a child were
assisted by trained Red Cross Disaster Action Team
volunteers.
On early Sunday
morning, one adult was assisted by Red Cross
volunteers after a home fire in St. George’s Road in
Delmar, Sussex County.
Red Cross volunteers
responded to a mobile home fire on March 14th,
affected a family of 7 (2 adults & 5 kids) on
Michigan Avenue, Dover.
A family of 3 (2
adults and a child) at Draper Drive, Dover, was
helped with emergency disaster assistance by Red
Cross volunteer on March 11th.
A mobile home fire on
Linda Court left a family of 2 (an adult and an
teenager) homeless in Greenwood, Sussex County. The
family received Red Cross emergency assistance on
March 10th.
Red Cross responded
to a family’s needs after a fire in Stevensville,
Queen Anne’s County , on March 10th.
One resident of a
single family home on Hammontown Road in Harrington,
Kent county, Delaware was helped by Red Cross
volunteers after fire destroyed his home on March
10th.
A Bridgeville’s
family’s home on Hickory Street was damaged by fire
on March 9th. The family of five (2 adults and 3
kids) received assistance from Red Cross volunteers.
With all disasters,
large or small, Red Cross assists with the immediate
disaster-caused needs of those affected – primarily
temporary shelter, food and clothing – free of
charge to the recipients. The families are also
referred to other community partners for their
longer term needs, and provided with information on
the steps they should take to cope with the disaster
and plan their recovery.
