Cambridge residents helped by Red Cross after fire

Easton, MD – March 24, 2006 – Red Cross disaster volunteers were on the scene of an apartment fire in Cambridge, MD early this morning to assist those individuals and families affected.

Two trained members of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team provided food and clothing for seven families and information on how to begin the process of recovery. The American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula assists with immediate disaster-caused needs, and refers all families affected by disaster to community partners to help with their other needs.

Volunteers and staff are on call 24/7 to meet with those affected by disaster. “When the Red Cross arrives on the scene of a fire, we move fast,” said Margi Prueitt, CEO of the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. “Our mission is to quickly address the immediate challenges of those affected – providing shelter if needed, as well as the means to replace clothing, food, personal items and medications. Most of all, we are there for the people of this community: the human response when emergencies touch our lives.”
