Perryville fire – Red Cross volunteer assists

Elkton, MD – March 28, 2006 – A Red Cross volunteer assisted after a fire in Perryville left two people displaced on Friday afternoon, March 24th. The trained and experienced Disaster Action Team volunteer provided food, clothing, and a safe place to stay, and gave advice on steps to take to help recover from this disaster. All families affected by disaster are referred by the American Red Cross to community partners to help with their other disaster-caused needs.

Volunteers and staff are on call 24 hours a day to meet with those affected by disaster. “When the Red Cross arrives on the scene of a fire, we move fast,” said Margi Prueitt, CEO of the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. “Our mission is to quickly address the immediate challenges of those affected – providing shelter if needed, as well as the means to replace clothing, food, personal items and medications. Most of all, we are there for the people of this community: the human response when emergencies touch our lives.”
