Official Opening of New
American Red Cross Office for Southern Delmarva
Region in Seaford, Delaware

sets off on the next leg of his DELAWALK from the
new Red Cross office in Seaford
April 4, 2006 – SEAFORD, DE – A new office
serving six counties in the Southern Delmarva region
was officially opened by the American Red Cross of
the Delmarva Peninsula
in Seaford, Delaware, today, April 4th,
consolidating staff from its offices in Milford,
Delaware and Easton, Maryland. At the 8:00am
ribbon-cutting and Open House, attended by county
and local dignitaries and community partners, Red
Cross staffers and volunteers were on hand to
provide information about the emergency services
provided through this new office.
Margi Prueitt, Chief Executive Officer for the
American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula thanked
local guests who attended the function and said that
residents of the Southern Delmarva
counties served by the new office can be confident
that all community needs for disaster relief and
community preparedness will continue to be met. On
site at the new office was the Red Cross Emergency
Response Vehicle which is used during major
disasters, and also three trailers packed with
supplies and ready to be deployed anywhere in the
Southern Delmarva region in an emergency.
A highlight of the informal ceremony was the
recognition of local Seaford resident, Mary Swanson,
for her 55 years of dedicated service to the
American Red Cross as a disaster volunteer.
The new Red Cross office is located at 523 North
Market Street Extension, in Ross Business Park, and
shares office space with Lank, Johnson & Tull
Certified Public Accountants. It will serve families
and businesses in Kent and Sussex counties in
Delaware, and Caroline, Dorchester, Talbot and Queen
Anne’s counties in Maryland
Broadcasting live between 7:00am and 9:00am from
the new Red Cross office in Seaford, Steve West of
Eagle 97.7FM’s Morning Mess, shared Red Cross
stories with local residents before heading out on
leg two of his DELAWALK, to raise funds for the
American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. Steve
completed his 10 day trek on April 13th, achieving
his goal of personally meeting 1,000 residents of
Southern Delaware and raising $10,000 for the local
Red Cross. Steve's trek took him from Delmar on
April 3rd to Seaford, Bridgeville, Georgetown,
Lewes, Milford, Harrington, Felton, Camden, Dover,
W. Dover, N. Dover, Cheswold and Smyrna, before
ending in Middletown on Thursday April 13th. The
walk was sponsored by Halpern Eye Associates,
Delaware Federal Credit Union and other local
