This popular event is a major
fundraiser for the American Red Cross of the
Delmarva Peninsula, which has been providing
disaster relief and emergency services – free of
charge – to families on the eastern shore of
Maryland and in Delaware for more than 100 years,
since 1905. Proceeds will be used to provide
immediate emergency assistance – food, shelter,
clothing and other basic needs – to local families
left temporarily homeless after disasters such as
fires and floods. Since the beginning of this fiscal
year (June 2005), the American Red Cross of the
Delmarva Peninsula has assisted 47 families,
comprising 123 people, who suffered disasters in the
eastern shore Maryland counties of Caroline,
Dorchester, Queen Anne’s and Talbot.
