Nine helped by Red Cross after apartment fire on Kirkwood Highway

Wilmington, DE – May 2, 2006 – Nine people were helped yesterday by volunteers from the American Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula after a fire at Admirals Club, off Kirkwood Highway, in Newark.

The residents, from a block of 12 units damaged by the fire, were provided with vouchers for temporary accommodation, clothing and food by members of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team. The Red Cross is continuing to work with the displaced residents and community partners to help with their longer-term recovery needs.

This was the third apartment fire in New Castle County that the Red Cross has assisted at, in less than ten days.
