Three Fires In New Castle In Three Days Leave 10 People Homeless - Red Cross Steps In To Assist

Wilmington, DE – May 7, 2007 – Three families (7 adults and 3 children) were being helped by the Red Cross after fires left them homeless in different incidents in New Castle County over the weekend and today.

On Saturday - American Red Cross Disaster Action Team volunteers took care of the emergency needs of an adult and child after their Elsmere home sustained major damage in a fire .

On Sunday - A family of two in Old New Castle was helped by Red Cross volunteers after a home fire. The adult and child were assisted with clothing and temporary shelter .

Today, Monday, a family of six in Bear, suffered a major fire. Red Cross volunteers took care of the family's emergency needs of clothing, food, shelter and infant supplies .

With all disasters, large or small, Red Cross assists with the immediate disaster-caused needs of those affected – primarily temporary shelter, food and clothing – free of charge to the recipients. The families are also referred to other community partners for their longer term needs, and provided with information on the steps they should take to cope with the disaster and plan their recovery.
