Two
Families Helped By Red Cross After Home Fires In
Seaford
Seaford, DE – December 8, 2006 – Two
Seaford families were being helped by the American
Red Cross today after fires left them homeless last
night.
A fire on Deely Street caused major damage to the
home of 6 adults and 2 children, who were provided
with lodging, food, clothing, winter garments, and
storage containers by volunteers from the American
Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. .
Another fire at Park Circle destroyed a mobile
home, displacing a family of 2 adults and an infant.
The Red Cross provided food, clothing, and winter
garments. The family opted to stay with family until
they can relocate to a new home.
As winter begins, families are urged to take
simple steps to avoid preventable fires, which are
frequently caused by heating sources. The Red Cross
recommends that all potential fuel sources,
including newspapers, matches, clothing and bedding,
are kept at least three feet away from heat sources
such as a space heater or fireplace. On average,
more than twice a week, the American Red Cross of
the Delmarva Peninsula helps families left homeless
by fire with assistance for food, clothing,
prescription medications, temporary shelter and
other special needs an affected family might have.
